Kick off your afternoon with the electrifying fiddle of Irish Millie at The Blue Room in Coboconk on August 9th at 12:00 PM! This 18-year-old fiddle player, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Peterborough, Ontario, is a rising star whose passion for music and community will light up the stage.
Inspired at age three by Natalie MacMaster, Irish Millie (Amelia Shadgett) got her first fiddle at six and hasn’t stopped since. Her debut album, Thirteen, recorded with her dad, Murray, during the 2020 lockdown, earned a 2022 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Young Performer of the Year. She followed up with nominations in 2023 with her band, The Receivers, and in 2024 for her EP, The Trilogy. Her latest album, GRACE, is nominated for two 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards: Young Performer of the Year and the Oliver Schroer Pushing the Boundaries Award for its innovative fusion of East Coast, Bluegrass, and Contemporary Trad with modern funk and EDM. The album’s track “So Gone,” a tribute to her friend Pius MacIsaac, is a heartfelt highlight.
Millie’s fast-paced, crowd-pleasing tunes tell stories that blend tradition with her unique flair. From touring Vermont and Vancouver Island to headlining PEI’s Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival in 2024, she’s played sea to sea, often with her dad or The Receivers. Her music, available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music, invites listeners to hear their own stories in every note. Beyond the stage, Millie’s commitment to community shines through her fundraising for the Terry Fox Foundation, including her original tune “If I Don’t Make It,” and her 2023 Peterborough Civic Award for Community Betterment.
